

She was born November 30, 1928 in Harrisonburg and was the daughter of the late Charles and Hattie Whitmer Eye.
She was a 1948 graduate of Harrisonburg High School. After retiring from Grand Piano Furniture Store and Heatwole T.V. and Appliance, she cared for her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and other children in the family. Doris never knew a stranger and was known for her “sweet tea” amongst the wrestling community. She was also a member of Otterbein United Methodist Church.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by a brother, Marvin Whitmer; a sister, Lorraine Rinker; and a grandson, Eric Fulton.
Surviving are two sons, Steve L. Baker and wife, Vickie, of Weyers Cave, Dennis L. Baker of Rockingham; grandchildren, Beau Baker and wife, Dana of Harrisonburg, Kyle Baker and Alicia Jenkins of Dayton, Katie Elliott and husband, Chris, and Judson Nicholas and wife, Sara of Richmond; great-grandchildren, Gable, Dagen, Adalynn, Champ Baker, Thatcher, Parker and Presley Elliott; a daughter-in-law, Beth Baker of Mt. Solon; and a “very special niece”, Susan Davis, who provided much love and support throughout Doris’ life.
A private graveside service will be conducted by Pastor Jim Logan in the Clover Hill United Methodist Church Cemetery.
A gathering of friends and family will be held 3:00-5:00 pm, Saturday, February 10, 2018 at Otterbein United Methodist Church in Harrisonburg.
The family offers a special thanks to the Bridgewater Retirement Community and especially to the staff of Unity House where she last resided.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Bridgewater Retirement Community.
