Etta Jane Byrd

She was born on January 20, 1947 and is the daughter of Catherine Watson Barber of Harrisonburg and the late Matthew Barber.

Etta graduated from Lucy Simms School and retired from Marshalls where she had been employed for over 20 years. She was a member of John Wesley United Methodist Church.

In addition to her mother, she is survived by her husband, Wilmer C. Byrd, Jr. of Harrisonburg; a son, Wilmer C. Byrd, III and wife, Tammy of Grottoes; a daughter, Ashley Campbell and husband, Andrew, of Richmond; three grandchildren, Ryan and Devon Byrd, and Annie Campbell who is on the way; sisters, Jackie Strother and Felicia Holly both of Harrisonburg; Lonnie Simmons and Gwen Rivers and husband, Johnny, all of Stuarts Draft; a brother, Godwin Barber and wife, Christy, of Harrisonburg; a special friend, Vickie Knott of Mt. Solon; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by a sister, Loretta Morgan and a brother, Matthew Barber, Jr.

The family will receive friends 4-5:00 pm, Sunday, September 13, 2015 at Lindsey Funeral Home in Harrisonburg.

A memorial service will be held at 5:00 pm, following the visitation with Pastors Faith Evans and Wilma White officiating.
