

Mrs. Whitmore was born August 13, 1912, in Rockingham County and was a daughter of the late Robert Pierce Martin and Ivy (Ruddle) Martin. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family, having been predeceased by her three older siblings and their spouses.
Mrs. Whitmore lived her entire life in Rockingham and Augusta counties and attended schools in Mt. Clinton and Dayton. She worked in Harrisonburg, Mt. Sidney, and Bridgewater and retired from the Sperry Hutchinson Redemption Center in 1977. Mrs. Whitmore was a homemaker and seamstress and member of Bridgewater Presbyterian Church.
Mrs. Whitmore is survived by her two daughters, Sarah Ann Whitmore of Harrisonburg, VA and Linda Sue Whitmore of Alexandria, VA; numerous nieces and nephews, including great, great, great, and cousins also survive her.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday at 2:00 p.m. from the chapel of Lindsey Harrisonburg Funeral Home in Harrisonburg, VA, with the Rev. Jack Heintzleman and Rev. Kerry Foster officiating. Burial will follow in Augusta Stone Presbyterian Church Cemetery in Fort Defiance, VA. The daughters will receive friends on Friday from 7:00 until 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. The casket will be closed.
