She began serving her community at the young age of 14 by becoming a server at the Little Tunnel Inn. Since then she has served on various boards and committees. She was an employee of Claiborne County Medical Center, served many years as an elected school board member for the Claiborne County Board of Education, and served as Deputy Trustee at the Claiborne County Trustee’s office under two elected Trustees before becoming the elected Trustee herself in 1998. Alice has since continued to serve the Claiborne County citizens as Trustee until her last breath. She devoted so much of her life to Claiborne County and now her hard-working servant’s hands are finally at rest.
Alice is preceded in death by her parents William Frank and Oda Belva Smith, loving husband of 54 years James Patrick Alexander. Brother David Richard Smith. Nephew William Richard Smith. Sister-in-law Mabel Rowland Smith. Father-in-law and mother-in-law James Albert and Leatrice Joy Alexander. Brothers-in-law Jeffery Dale Alexander, Jack Ronald Alexander, and Dennis Joe Alexander.
She is survived by her son James Brian Alexander and daughter in-law who she always considered to be a daughter of her own, Zelma Denise Alexander of Speedwell, TN. She leaves behind her two granddaughters who she loved beyond words; Whitney Denise (J.D.) Estep of Speedwell, TN and Holly Rebekah (Scott) Mason of Lexington, KY. Her greatest blessings four great-grandchildren Izabelva Denise, Zayvalee Jane, and J. Dallard Estep, V. and Finn Alexander Mason. All of which who will forever miss their Mamaw. Brother J.B. Smith of Harrogate, TN. Brother and sister-in-law Jerry and Priscilla Alexander of Franklin, OH. Sisters-in-law Debbie Williams of Knoxville, TN and Diane Braden of Speedwell, TN. Special niece Debbie Faye (Richard) Cowles of Arthur, TN. Her pride and joy her dog Blessin'. Along with a host of family, friends, and beloved staff at the Trustee's office.
The family will receive friends Sunday, March 3, 2024 from 2 until 4 P.M. at Binghamtown Baptist Church in Middlesboro KY. The funeral service will be at 4 P.M. in the Binghamtown Baptist Church chapel. The graveside service will follow in the Alexander Cemetery in Speedwell.
