Albert F. Disante, Jr., Lt. Col., USAF (Ret.) passed away peacefully of natural causes on September 21, 2017 in the presence of his children. He was 84 years old.
Al was born in Shelton, CT on September 18, 1933 to Albert F. Disante, Sr. and Mary Oliva Disante. He attended Shelton High School, where he was the star quarterback on the school's undefeated championship football team and later earned a BS degree from the University of Nebraska.
In 1953, Al enlisted in the still fledgling U. S. Air Force, and was selected for its officer training program. He received a commission and upon completion of flight training, qualified as a navigator in the KC-135 aircraft. Al served with distinction in the Air Force for 22 years, retiring in 1975 as a Lieutenant Colonel.
Following his retirement from the Air Force, over the next two decades, Al served in multiple capacities for General Motors, LA Downs, and Harrah's.
Despite two full careers and the unique demands of military service, Al was first and foremost a family man. He enjoyed sharing painting chores, pancake breakfasts, lawn mowing, and any other event that gave him the opportunity to spend time with them. He danced enthusiastically at their weddings, and he had a particular weakness for jelly donuts.
Vibrant to the end, Al is remembered, by those who were fortunate to know him, especially his companion of 15 years, Sharon Bennett, as a man of unerring kindness, generosity, wit, and homespun wisdom.
Al was preceded in death by his parents, his brother, Robert, and his beloved wife, Elouise Bryant Disante.
He is survived by his three children, Sandra Disante Latham (Kevin) of Annapolis, MD, Albert F. "Trey" Disante III (Pam) of Natchitoches, LA, and Mary V. "Ginger" Disante of Bossier City, LA, as well as seven grandchildren, and 5 (almost 6) great grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to the Father Flanagan's Boys Town or The Disabled Veterans National Foundation, which Al supported throughout his life.
