A Memorial Service will be held for David L. Booth at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, April 28, 2015 at Hill Crest Memorial Chapel. The family will be receiving friends for visitation at 6:00 p.m., prior to the service.
David was born at Tachikawa Air Force Base in Japan on October 31, 1957, the second of four children to James David Booth and Dorothy Gay Barfield. He grew up in Shreveport, LA and attended Woodlawn High School, graduating in 1976. He joined the United States Marine Corps and married Vickie Darlene Berry of Keithville, LA in December 1977. Together they moved to Twenty Nine Palms, California and welcomed a daughter, Darlene in February 1979. They moved to five other duty stations with David’s primary role being Aviation PME Calibration Technician throughout David’s military career before his retirement in 1996 at Quantico, VA Marine Corps Base HMX/Marine One after servicing 20 years with the rank of GySgt. After leaving the service he embraced the civilian life returning to his hometown, Shreveport, LA. He joined Wood Group Pressure Control serving several positions in Quality and as Branch Manager until departing in 2009. He went on to join his long-time colleague and friend Lee Boquet’s team as Quality Assurance Manager for True Turn Machine/Cactus Wellhead where he also worked along-side his daughter and son in law.
He was a devoted team player and committed to his team even in illness. He was a loving husband, a devoted father and a doting grandfather. He had a passion for reading, music and traveling the world. He passed away at the age of 57 on April 22, 2015 at Promise Hospital in Bossier City, LA after a long and courageous battle with lung cancer.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Dorothy Gay Cavanaugh, father, James David Booth, paternal grandfather, James Charles Booth, paternal grandmother, Ethel M. Booth, maternal grandfather, Reginald Barfield, maternal grandmother, Edna Thompson, special step grandfather, “Buddy” Thompson, brother, James “Jimmy” Malcolm Booth and mother in law, Mary Juanita Berry.
David is survived by his wife, Vickie Booth, daughter, Darlene Courtney and husband David Ryan Courtney, grandchildren, Austin Brian Giddens, Paxton Ryan Courtney; brother, Ray Booth and wife Carolyn Hayes, sister, Cheri Richardson and husband Mark; father in law, Willie Berry, sister-in-law, Sherry Beck and husband James; special extended family, Boquet, Courtney and Procell families, and many friends, family and loved ones.
In lieu of flowers, David requested that donations be made to the Caddo Bossier Cancer Foundation League, 3300 Albert L. Bicknell Drive, Ste. 3, Shreveport, LA. 71103
