

Dorothy Margene Yagel, age 91, of Haughton, Louisiana passed away on Wednesday, January 15, 2025 surrounded by family. Dorothy was born on May 6, 1933, in Plain Dealing, Louisiana to Edward H. Arnold and Edna L. Teutsch Arnold.
Margene's career spanned various roles, including working as a waitress, an insurance salesperson with Metropolitan Life, a retail sales associate, and for 28 years, as a dedicated Bossier Parish School Bus Driver, from which she retired in 1999.
She had a fondness for collecting chickens, snowmen, and hummingbirds. Margene was known for organizing camping trips with her group of friends during the summer to Albert's Pike and was affectionately named "The Head Bell Cow." Shopping was her ultimate pastime—Bob often joked that with just $0.50 and a tank of gas, she could spend the whole day shopping!
Margene is survived by her three daughters: Dorothy Gail Bennett (James), Patricia Lynn Battlefield, and Lela Marlene Morton; grandchildren: Misty Lynn Whitlock, Gary Ray Battlefield Jr., Gilbert Ryan Battlefield (Crystal), and Lari Cheyenne Haskins; great grandchildren: Lang Edward Vowell, Lynn Leigh Otwell, Zeauxy Elizabeth Otwell, Lacey Nicole Battlefield, Gage Ryan Battlefield, and Lainey Rae Battlefield.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 69 years, Robert Gale "Bob" Yagel; parents, Edward and Edna Arnold; grandson, James Edward "JimBo" Otwell; brothers: John Hudson Arnold and Billy Atwood Arnold, and sister-in-love, Shirley Fondren Arnold.
Pallbearers are Lang Edward Vowell, Gage Ryan Battlefield, Gary Ray Battlefield Jr., Gilbert Ryan Battlefield, Edward Patrick Arnold, and Milton Raymond Yagel. Honorary pallbearers are Ronnie Glen Watson, Mack Teutsch, Dale Teutsch, Rodney Teutsch, Heath Teutsch, Steve Arnold, and Mark Arnold.
A visitation for Margene will be held Sunday, January 19, 2025, beginning at 1:00 PM with a Celebration of Life at 2:00 PM at Hill Crest Memorial Chapel, 601 Hwy 80, Haughton, Louisiana 71037. Brother Harold Shelton will be officiating.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in her honor to an organization of your choosing.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to her granddaughter, Misty Whitlock and her niece Robin Goleman for the dedication and loving care they gave her during her final months of life. We would also like to exceed a heartfelt thanks to the following doctors and staff Dr. Ted Warren, Dr. Tyler Lash, Dr. Hector Brunet, Dr. Guillermo Padilla, and St. Joseph Hospice nurses and staff.
