Evelyn Shebanek Green passed away peacefully on the evening of July 4, 2017 at the age of 89. She began her life journey on August 3, 1927 in Lonetree, Iowa. After graduating from Business College, she moved to Anchorage, Alaska to work for the aluminum company, Alcoa. While there, she met and married her husband of 54 years, Donald Green. Donald, as well as their eldest daughter, Kendal Gomez, preceded Evelyn in death and will be there among the Heavens to greet wife and mother.
A devout Catholic, Evelyn was a member of the St. Jude’s Catholic Church. She served her church family through various means, especially baking cakes and brownies for events. To ensure that she and her husband would celebrate their wedding anniversary with a church service, the two married on a holy day.
A dedicated spouse, Evelyn travelled alongside her husband as a military wife. Upon her husband’s retirement from the United States Air Force, Evelyn lived in Louisiana for the final 50 years of her life. As a beloved mother, Evelyn was known for her strength, integrity, and spirit – in addition to her lively talent at playing cards and dice.
Evelyn is survived by her son, Donald D. Green, Jr. and wife Nancy E. Green of Baton Rouge, Louisiana; son, Drew D. Green and wife Anna M. Green of Bossier City, Louisiana; and daughter, Stephanie S. Green of Frankfort, Kentucky and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Evelyn will be deeply missed by all.
Graveside services will take place at Hill Crest Memorial Park on Wednesday, July 12, 2017 at 2:00PM, with Deacon Mike Wise serving as officiant.
