Freddie retired as a microbiologist from the Louisiana Department of Public Health. A source of pride for him was when he became a U.S. citizen.
He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Dorothy “Dot” Robinson Fernandez; daughters, Susie McDowell and Dory Michell; four grandchildren, Jeff Lewis, Rachel Wilson, Kevin Lewis, and Mark Michell; and seven great grandchildren, Darren, Danielle, Logan, Mallory,Hank Jr, Jeremy, and Madilynne. He is also survived by his brother Rafael Fernandez, sister Consuelo Chacon, brother-in-law Marcus Robinson and sister-in-law Faye Powell.
Pallbearers will be Larry Brown, Larry Lewis, Jeff Lewis, Kevin Lewis, Mark Michell, Russell Adams and Ken Drews.
Funeral services will be held at Hill Crest Memorial Funeral Home in Haughton, Louisiana, on Wednesday, October 20, 2010. Visitation will be at 10 am and service at 11 am with Rev George Rogers, pastor of Koran Baptist Church, officiating.
