Services to celebrate the life of Fred R. Scarbrough, Jr. will be held at 11:00 am, Thursday, March 16, 2023, at Hill Crest Memorial Chapel with Bro. Casey Hall officiating. Interment will follow at Haughton Cemetery. The family will receive friends for visitation beginning at 10:00 am until service time.
He was known by different names to those who knew and loved him, such as Fred Daddy, Scab, Friend Daddy and Freddy.
He was born on January 25, 1946 in Mexia, TX to Fred Richard Scarbrough, Sr. and Willie Fae Scarbrough Roberts. Fred’s father passed away on the USS Indianapolis six months before he was born. His mother was later remarried to the man he called Dad, Harold Earl Roberts Sr. His brother, Harold Roberts Jr was born, and the two boys grew up in Bellevue and Haughton. Fred remained in Haughton until a year ago when he went to live in his cabin in Shreveport, next door to his oldest daughter. He passed away there in his sleep on March 13, 2023.
Dad attended Haughton High School then went on to graduate from Louisiana Tech University with a Bachelor’s degree in Animal Science. Afterwards, he taught Chemistry at Haughton High School then later went to work for Arkla Gas, where he retired.
His hobbies included fishing, rodeoing, 4WD Rough Rider Club, sporting clays, western shows, LSU sports, and last, but not least, was an avid deer hunter.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife of 35 years, Kathy.
Fred is survived by his brother, Harold E. Roberts, Jr. (Alice); his daughters, Christi Hall (Jimmy), Jessi Willis (Hack), and Kasi Slayton (Kim); grandchildren, Lauren Dupuy (Paul), Bradley Rachal, Starla Willis, Tripp Willis; great-grandchildren, Luke and Lainey Dupuy; his nephew, Kevin Roberts (Pam); and niece, Reagan Smith (Justin).
Pallbearers will be Lynn Beaty, Hack Willis, Jimmy Hall, Paul Dupuy, Will Hall, and Kevin Roberts.
Honorary pallbearers will be Mike “Buzz” Beaty, Kim Slayton, and Sid “Goat” McCullin.
Daddy will forever be missed by all of us but especially his 4-legged companion, Cowgirl “Josi”.
