Glenda Rhodes-Hood was born in Shreveport, LA on January 13, 1947, and went to reside with her Heavenly Father on October 15, 2024. Visitation will be held at 10:00 am followed by the service at 11:00 am. Blake Lewis, of Haughton Baptist Church will be officiating at the service.
Glenda was a veteran of the United States Navy and served her country from 1973-1993, where she met her Navy husband Bob Hood. For most of her Navy career she was stationed in San Diego, CA and in Honolulu, Hawaii. Glenda was the first female Lithographer to make the rank of Chief Petty Officer in Naval history, a distinction she was extremely proud of, as was her family. She retired from the Navy after 20 years as an E7, with Lithographer being her military occupational specialty. After retirement and moving with her husband to Mt. Ida, AR, she served as a Veteran’s Service Officer helping many local military veterans with applications and appeals for Veteran benefits and assistance. Both she and her husband Bob were active members with the local chapter of the VFW in Mt. Ida and in the Montgomery County American Legion Post 313 in Mount Ida.
After moving back to Louisiana, Mrs. Hood was a resident at the Bloom of Bossier for several years, where she loved to call and play bingo, and was always excited when she won even the smallest of prizes. She loved performing with the Bell Choir where they would go perform at several churches during the holidays. She was a friend to all residents and loved the staff and all her aides who returned that love and attention. Her faith was very strong and she always demonstrated that faith in her actions toward others. She was so generous and would give the shirt off her back to anyone who needed it.
Mrs. Hood is preceded in death by her husband of 28 years, Robert (Bob) Hood, parents Thomas Glenn Rhodes and Eunice Rhodes, sister Marie Rhodes Trotter, brother-in-law Landry A. Trotter, and nephew Gaylon Trotter.
Glenda is survived in life, by sons Walter L Downey, III and wife Kelly, William Jason Downey, sister Rhonda Rhodes-Hensley and husband Rock all of Haughton, step-son Robert Hood, Jr and wife Cheryl and step-daughter Robyn Ann Hood-Ryan all of Goose Creek, SC; Grandchildren, Taylor Downey-Kirk (Scott) of Fayetteville, AR, Eric Logan Downey, Joseph Downey, Amelia Downey all of Haughton; step grandchildren Jennifer Fitzhugh of Denver, CO and Madison Nicosia of Ashville, NC; Great-Grandchildren, Morganne Downey, Logan Downey, Jack Walter Downey, all of Haughton, LA and Elijah Patterson and Claire Downey-Kirk, of Fayetteville, AR.
