He was born in Buffalo, New York on February 24, 1931 and educated at Michigan State University and later Northwestern State University of Louisiana. He also held a Master of Education degree from LSUS. He joined the Aviation Cadet Program of the U.S. Air Force in 1953 and was commissioned and rated as a flying officer in 1954. He served 21 years primarily in the Strategic Air Command, as a navigator and an Avionics Staff Officer. He served in Phu Cat, Viet Nam in 1968. He retired in 1974 and retrained as a teacher in industrial arts and earth science which he taught in both Shreveport, LA. and Marshall, TX.
He is preceded in death by his parents, George and Vera Perry; sister, Janet Perry Schuster and brother, Ronald Perry of Buffalo, New York.
He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Wynona; daughter, Paula Perry Taylor; two grandchildren, Blaine Taylor of Nashville, TN.; granddaughter, Josie Taylor Stocko and her husband, Alex Stocko of Atlanta, GA.; sister and brother-in-law, Linda and Charles Durham of Lufkin, TX. and numerous nieces and nephews, who called him Uncle Skip and Uncle Mike.
Services for Mr. Perry will begin with a Visitation between 10 – 11 am, within the State Room of Hill Crest Funeral Home Haughton. Later, at 1:00 pm, there will be a Graveside Funeral at N.W. LA Veterans Cemetery. Each service will be held Thursday, December 30, 2021.
