Jimmy Earl Shaw went to be with his Lord on February 9, 2021 after a brave battle with cancer. A visitation will be held at Hill Crest Memorial in Haughton, Louisiana on February 12, 2021 from 5:00 to 7:00 pm. The funeral service will be at Hill Crest Memorial Chapel on February 13, 2021 at 10:00 am officiated by Dr. Robert Finley; burial to follow at Hill Crest.
Jim was born January 17, 1948 to William B. and Maxie Brown Shaw in Logansport, LA. He graduated from Byrd High School and served his country in the U. S. Air Force until he retired as Master Sergeant in 1988. He remarked that he had visited every continent except South America and Antarctica. He then furthered his college career and taught golf until he started JDT Transport, a transportation brokerage company, with wife Diana and sister, Patricia Strickland and husband David. He retired in 2012.
Jim was a faithful member of First Baptist Church of Bossier City where he served as deacon and taught Sunday school for many years with his wife.
Jim was an accomplished golfer and basketball player and an avid sports fan. He loved spending time with family and friends and was an amazing father and "Pappy" to his 12 grandchildren; Kevin, Devan, Joshua, Geanie, Alexis, E'Lise, Brandi, Kara, Joey, Zachary, Ashley and Amber. Jim loved to play dominoes and cards and was very competitive. His laugh was contagious and he loved to "pick" on his siblings. We will miss that laugh and his wit and the "rock" he was to our family.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents; sister Mery Henry; brothers Charles "Buddy" Shaw, Hobbs Shaw and Robert Shaw; and stepson, Kenneth Reeves and mother of his two sons, Kathleen Suzette.
Jim is survived by his loving wife and soul mate, Diana Shaw; sons Chad Shaw (Jennifer), Mark Shaw and stepdaughter Shannon Reeves; sisters, Dorothy Jean White and Patricia Strickland; brothers, Al Shaw (Brenda), Bill Shaw, Don Shaw (Nancy), Eddie Shaw, Kenneth Shaw (Cindy); and brother in law, Clinton Henry. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, and a long list of very special friends.
Jim left an amazing legacy. He was a very intelligent man, a math whiz and had an incredible work ethic. He was a husband, father, grandfather and friend to be admired and will be greatly missed, but the memories, advice, lessons and love he had for all those who knew him will live on in their hearts forever.
Honoring Jim as pallbearers will be Chad Shaw, Mark Shaw, Zachary Shaw, Kevin Hair, Joshua Madrigal, Michael Johnston, Joey Ciastko, and Chase Weaver.
The family would like to offer a special thanks to our church, our friends, Connection Class, and ladies bible study groups for the prayer, support, food, cards and messages offered during this very difficult time. Jim and I were truly blessed in the way our children stepped up to assist in his care and spent countless hours tending to his every need day and night. He was so proud of them and the tenderness and compassion they showed in assisting him touched our hearts!
