John was born on October 4, 1953, in Alexandria, LA to Glenn and Nettie (Queen) Ogden. John graduated from Tioga High school and attended Louisiana Tech University, where he received a bachelor's degree in forestry. While at Louisiana Tech University, he met his wife and the love of his life, Karen (Smith) Ogden. After marrying, John and Karen worked at the Louisiana Methodist Children’s Home as house parents in Ruston. During this time, John pursued his bachelor’s degree in accounting and eventually began his career in the oil and gas industry at P&O Falco in Shreveport, LA. While finishing his MBA at Louisiana Tech, he moved to Houston, TX, with his family to work for Enron. After a long career in the oil and gas industry, John retired from Southwestern Energy and relocated back to Bossier, Louisiana, to be close to his children and grandchildren.
John remained a loyal Bulldog fan and enjoyed attending football and basketball games at his Alma Mater.

Additionally, he volunteered as a Silver Eagle at Asbury UMC. He was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting and fishing, however, if you asked John what his favorite role was in life, he would tell you it was being a dad and grandfather.
