Lyman “Checo” Eugene Bertsch, 86, peacefully went to be with the Lord on November 14th, 2023 in Shreveport, Louisiana. Lyman was born on June 29, 1937, in Upham, North Dakota. He married the love of his life, Nancy Bertsch, on April 4, 1957, in Bayport, Minnesota. Together they raised three children and spent many wonderful years traveling the world as a family while Lyman proudly served in the United States Air Force for 29 years, retiring as a Master Sgt. in 1984. Lyman was a faithful member of Fellowship United Methodist Church in Bossier City. He cherished God and family above everything and in his later years of life found great joy in creating picture collages of his loved ones.
He was preceded in death by: his wife, Nancy Bertsch; his parents, William Bertsch & Ruby Benidiktson; and stepmother Marzella Bertsch. He is survived by: his sons, Robert Bertsch; Michael Bertsch and wife Belinda; his daughter Cindy Quinlan and husband Terry; brother, Terry Bertsch; sisters, Holly Owens and Zelda Buelow; his grandchildren, Brian Olson and Jill, Carrie Kissoon and husband Jai, Nikki Katelhut and husband Matt, Michael Bertsch and wife Amanda, Brandie and husband Matt, Johnny Thomson; and 12 beloved great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cherished friends.
A celebration of his life will begin with a Visitation at 10:00 am, followed by the Funeral at 11:00 am. Each will be held on Monday, November 20, within the Hill Crest Chapel, in Haughton. Interment will follow in the cemetery.
The family would like to give special thanks to the physicians, nurses, and techs who provided wonderful care to Lyman during his hospitalization at Christus Highland Medical Center.
