Mack Daniel Knotts, age 82, passed away Saturday, May 1, 2021. Visitation will occur on Monday, May 3, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Hill Crest Memorial Funeral Home, 601 US-80 East, Haughton, LA. Mack’s life will be celebrated Tuesday, May 4, 2021, at 2:00 p.m. at Bellaire Baptist Church, 1210 Bellaire Boulevard in Bossier City. Interment will be in Hill Crest Memorial Park.
Mack was born on April 29, 1939, in Castor, LA to Louis Zumie Knotts and Vera Knotts. He graduated from Castor High School and earned his undergraduate and master’s degrees from Northwestern State University and his Master’s +30 from Louisiana Tech University.
Mack began his teaching and coaching career at St. Mary’s High School, followed by a long career in Haynesville, home of the Golden Tornado, where he was high school basketball coach, elementary and junior high school principal, and high school principal. After retirement, Mack was a Bossier Parish School Board member and became a licensed insurance agent. As a member of Bellaire Baptist Church, Mack proudly served as a Deacon.
Mack was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his spouse of 58 years, Jo Nell Rogers Knotts; their three children, Mike Knotts, Kenny Knotts, and Tami Knotts; his sisters Freddie Davis and Peggy Wood; grandchildren Christopher, Bethany, Jacob, and Nicholas; numerous nieces and nephews; and great granddaughter, Katesyn.
Mack touched the lives of countless teammates, students, players, colleagues, and friends during his lifetime. The memories of his vivacious personality, strong work ethic, and softhearted spirit will be cherished. Mack had a way of making everyone feel special, and people knew he genuinely cared about them. Growing up, Mack enjoyed fishing with his dad. Playing and watching sports was his passion, and he dedicated himself to attending all athletic events of his children and grandchildren. Mack’s greatest love was spending time with his family. We will miss him more than words can describe.
