In loving memory of Mary Elizabeth Whitfield Cochran, born on February 1, 1935, in Shreveport, Louisiana, and peacefully departed on December 10, 2023. Mary is survived by her cherished children: Elizabeth Jane McCarter (Andrew), Robert Sterling Cochran Jr. (Dee), and William Clay Cochran (Ashley). She leaves behind a legacy that extends to her seven grandchildren: Andy, Amanda, Alex, Collin, Nathan, Skyler and Allison and four great-grandchildren: Tristyn, Carter, Rowan and Elizabeth. Mary is preceded in death by her beloved husband, Robert S. Cochran.
A graduate of C.E. Byrd High School, Mary furthered her education at LaTech, where she became a proud member of the Alpha Chi Omega sorority. In 1976, she returned to LSUS and earned her Bachelor's degree. Mary was a dedicated member of the First United Methodist Church of Shreveport, actively participating in the Coed Sunday School class.
In 1988, she ventured into business with her son, Rob, co-founding Caddo Fab, a thriving enterprise that continues to flourish. Mary's leadership extended beyond the business realm; she played vital roles in the Quota Club, NAWIC, Pierremont Hills Garden Club, and made significant contributions to Alpha Chi Omega national, showcasing her service-oriented spirit.
Apart from her impactful community involvement, Mary discovered joy in leisure activities. An avid Mahjong enthusiast, her passion for bridge reflected her sharp intellect, and her tennis matches were a testament to her active and vibrant spirit. Mary's enduring legacy encompasses a life well-lived, marked by love, service, and an energetic engagement with the world around her.
Thanks to her great friends Martha Storer, Jerry Bigner and Guy Moore and the assistance of her sitters Josie, Maria, Sharethia, Cherry and Sue. She will be missed by her faithful cat Simba.
Her grandchildren will serve as her pallbearers. Donations in Mary's memory may be sent to Louisiana United Methodist Childrens and Family Services.
A visitation for Mary will be held Saturday, December 16, 2023 from 1:00 PM until time of her Celebration at 2:00 PM in the Chapel Hill Crest Memorial Funeral Home, 601 Hwy 80, Haughton, Louisiana 71037 with Bro. Carl Rhoades officiating.
Interment will immediately take place on the grounds of Hill Crest Memorial Park, Haughton, Louisiana.
