Services for Mrs. Dayberry will begin with a Visitation between 5 & 7 PM, Wednesday, June 2, 2021, at Hill Crest, in Haughton; Rosary at 6:00 PM. Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 AM, within Christ The King Catholic Church, Thursday, June 3, 2021. Interment will follow at Hill Crest Memorial Park.
She was born in Riverhead Harbor Grace, Newfoundland, Canada on July 25, 1937 to the proud parents James P. and Suzanna M. Whelan.
Mary Violet Whalen married the love of her life, Robert H. Dayberry on June 17, 1955 in Newfoundland, Canada.
Mrs. Dayberry began working at a young age as a housekeeper at home before marrying Robert and moving to the United States. She spent time running her own business as well as working as a nurse's assistant.
Mary was involved with her church at Eglin AFB, FL teaching the young children to be alter servers for the Mass and maintaining the alter servers schedule. After relocating to Haughton, LA, Mary and Robert became members of Christ The King Parish where she was proud to serve as a Eucharist Minister for many years.
Mary enjoyed traveling with her husband, Robert in their motorhome, to her birthplace of Newfoundland, Canada. Making stops to see family in Indiana and Kentucky, being on the road for months at a time, just enjoying the retired life. Mother also enjoyed watching any western movie or TV show that was available, and talking with friends over coffee and doughnuts after church. Mother enjoyed baking bread and many other desserts for her family and friends, cooking any meal, sewing, she was a wonderful gardener and loved working in her yard. She collected many treasures from around the world, especially her tea pots.
She is proceeded in death by her parents, James P. and Suzanna M. Whelan; husband, Robert H. Dayberry; brother, James Whelan; sisters, Eileen Whelan, Jean Galway and Marjorie Galloway; and granddaughter, Mary Elizabeth Borja.
She is survived by her children, son James Patrick (wife Susan), son Robert Paul (wife Lolette), daughter Cecilia Suzanne, and daughter Alice Denise Marie (husband Nathan).
Also to cherish Grandma's memory are: 9 grandchildren, Catherine M. Dayberry, Robert C. Dayberry, David C. Dayberry, Jeremy A. Borja, Andrea R. Billot (Justin), Denise M. Poole, (Justin) Suzanne I. Villar, Jason Bertrand (Stepheni) and Sarah Davis (Jason); 15 great grandchildren, Malachi, Riley, Annabelle, Makaila, Garrett, Kinsley, Collin, Kaitie, Tristann, Tayllor, Gavin, Braydon, Sophyea, Daniel, Dominic and Baby Poole on the way and her faithful dog, Max.
Also left to carry on her legacy are: sisters-in-law, Joyce Whelan and Fannie Beres (husband Ronnie) and numerous nieces and nephews.
The Dayberry family would like to thank: Brandy, Lisa, Bettye John, Brother James and Amedisys Hospice for the great care given to Mary. We also wish to express gratitude to Elite Health Solutions caregivers: Yvette, Rolanda, Kayven, Keyshia and Robbie. We would like to also thank the private sitters, Maxine and Dee.
Lastly, with great love and affection, we are also grateful to Debra Gooden.
