Mary “Anne” Clance McCawley lived exactly as she pleased—fully, fiercely, and without much concern for whether anyone was ready for what she had to say. She was passionate in all things, stubborn in her convictions, generous to a fault, and rarely known to soften her opinions for anyone’s comfort.
Anne had a heart as big as her personality. If you were in need, she would feed you, clothe you, open her door to you, and somehow send you home with leftovers, life advice, and at least one hard truth you may not have asked for. She was the kind of woman who would give you the shirt off her back—then look you dead in the eye and tell you it was time to get your s**t together.
She loved deeply, protected fiercely, and believed that honesty—whether welcome or not—was one of the purest forms of love. Anne didn’t believe in sugarcoating, and if she thought you were making a mess of things, you were going to hear about it. Usually loudly. Usually more than once. And, more often than not, she was right.
To know Anne was to be challenged, cared for, corrected, fed, and occasionally cussed out—all sometimes in the same afternoon. She left an impression wherever she went and on anyone and everyone lucky enough to cross her path.
She leaves behind family, friends, and countless people whose lives are better, stronger, and probably a little tougher because of her love. Her absence will be deeply felt, her lessons impossible to forget, and her voice—telling us to stand up straighter, work harder, and stop making excuses—will echo for years to come.
Mary “Anne” Clance McCawley was one of a kind: tough, generous, opinionated, loyal, and impossible to replace.
She will be missed beyond words, remembered beyond measure, and quoted—probably unfiltered—forever.
