Mrs. Nelda Earline Murphy Gibbs

Doyline, LA

Nelda Gibbs quietly passed away after a courageous battle with colon cancer on May 12, 2010. She was 83 years old. She is now in the arms of our mighty and precious lord.

Funeral service will be held at Hill Crest Chapel in Haughton, LA on May 17, 2010 at 2:00 pm with pastor Richard Bolt, of Point Chapel Assembly of God officiating. Visitation will be Sunday, May 16, 2010 from 5:00 until 7:00 pm.

Nelda was born May 7, 1927 in Rosboro , AR, daughter of Milo and Coy Murphy. After high school Nelda moved to Shreveport, LA. After the passing of her first husband John William Hammonds, Sr., she met and married Grover Cleveland Gibbs, Jr. Their lifetime together lasted 34 years with their blended families.

She was a deeply committed Christian who placed her full trust in the lord.

Nelda is preceded in death by her: mother, Coy McLain, father, M.A. Murphy, first husband, John Hammonds, Sr. sister, Edie, and brothers Gene and Howard.

She is survived by her husband Grover “Buddy” Gibbs, children: Janet Marshall and husband Vincent Sotelo, John Hammonds, Jr. and wife Michele, Susan Marrow, Linda Hutcherson, step-children: Debbie Gibbs, John Gibbs, Steve Gibbs, sister Paula Roberts, 17 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
