Ralph was born in Corpus Christi, Texas on October 31, 1931, to Rufus Lee Macy and Phyllis Marie Steele. He passed away on Wednesday, August 3, 2022 in Bossier City.
On August 15, 1949, Ralph married the love of his life, Tommie Gwendolyn Stewart, and they were together for 66 years. He enlisted in the United States Air Force in 1950 and served as an Aircraft Mechanic in Okinawa during the Korean War. He had reached the rank of Staff Sargent by the time he was stationed at Barksdale Air Force Base, but decided to leave the Air Force in 1955, in order to make Shreveport his family home.
Ralph attended trade school to become a machinist and worked for 26 years, most of those years at WKM (Brewster Company). Always the entrepreneur, he fulfilled his dream of owning his own machine shop when he, along with his youngest son, opened Macy’s Machine Shop in 1981. He had a strong work ethic and continued working until he retired in 2009.
Ralph had an infectious laugh and left a lasting impression on all who met him. He loved fishing and traveling with Tommie, golfing with the boys, growing vegetables in his garden, but his favorite pastime was being surrounded by his family at their many gatherings. He often said that he lived a good life and he truly did it his way.
Ralph was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; his sister, Marie George and husband Lonnie; nephews, Marlon and Gary George; sister-in-law, Billie Padilla and husband Arthur; nephews, Buzzy and Richard Padilla; niece, Terri Jones; and granddaughter, Lindsay Kimmell.
He leaves behind his children, Ralph Macy, Jr. (Kim), and Calvin Macy (Glenna); Devora Adams (Gregg), and Sandy Kimmell (Allen); grandchildren, John Macy (Amanda), Bert Adams, Michael Butler, Tom Macy (Emily), Dustin Butler (Jordan), Slater Thompson, Gray Kimmell, Melissa Smith (Allan), Meredith Hunter, and Candi Fisher (Mike), Macy Butler, and Sarah Thompson; great-grandchildren, Aaron Macy, Morgan and T.J.
