Services celebrating the life of Marion Tyrone “Ron” Chavis will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, July 11, 2020 at Hill Crest Memorial Chapel with Mr. Monte Parker officiating. Interment will follow at Hill Crest Memorial Park. The family will be receiving friends at 2:00 p.m. until service time.
Ron was born on July 29, 1952 in Lumberton, NC. Early on, Ron enlisted in the Army and served in Korea as an M.P. in Special Forces. He was a Deputy Sheriff for St. Landry Parish. Ronnie loved to go fishing any chance he got, coached little league baseball and football and was an avid NY Yankees and New Orleans Saints fan.
He was preceded in death by his father, Rev. Marion H. Chavis and sister, Donna Faye Chavis.
Ron is survived by his mother, Betty Chavis; children, Jonathan Chavis of Salem, OR, Amy Grossie and husband Levi of Breaux Bridge, LA, Laurie Chavis of Opelousas, LA and Chance Englebrook of Seaside, NJ; grandchildren, Tyler, Cheyenne, Eli, Caroline and Landon; great granddaughter, Amelia; siblings, Jeffrey Chavis and wife Carol of Haughton, LA, Darlene Madrigal and husband Juan of Bossier City, LA, Anthony Chavis and wife Trudi of Yakima, WA, James Chavis of Haughton, LA and Eric Chavis and wife Shannon of Shreveport, LA.
