Roy J. Dupuy departed this life peacefully on June 1, 2021 at the age of 86. Roy was born December 18, 1934, in Marksville, LA. Upon graduation from high school, he joined the United States Marine Corps, completed one tour of duty in San Diego, California and then returned to Louisiana to complete a Degree in Fine Arts at Centenary College. With his degree in hand, Roy embarked on a lifetime of adventures overseas that included a tour in North Africa with the Peace Corps, assignments with the Department of Defense in Viet Nam and Laos and eventually settled into a long teaching career in Taipei, Taiwan. His various assignments led him to continue his studies and pursue additional educational degrees, both in the US and abroad. During his time overseas, Roy took advantage of the many opportunities to explore countries and exotic places, immerse himself into local cultures and, of course, to indulge in the consumption of plenty of local foods. His love of travel and his intense curiosity of the world made him a lifelong student who, throughout his work and travels, developed life-long friendships across the globe.
Upon his retirement, Roy returned to the US and made the Bossier/Shreveport area his home. In retirement, he enjoyed many years spent in the company of family and continued to travel extensively across the states. Roy was always ready for a road trip or adventure, always willing to try new cuisine, and always ready for a cold margarita.
He is survived by two sisters, Audrey LaBorde and Judith Woolley; one brother, Michael Dupuy, and numerous devoted nephews and nieces. He was dearly cherished by his family who called him “Chip” and leaves them with many wonderful and funny memories to hold onto and stories to tell for years to come. He will always be held close in their hearts.
A memorial service to celebrate his life will be held at 11:00 AM, Monday, June 14, 2021 at Hill Crest Memorial Funeral Home, 601 US Highway 80 East, Haughton, LA.
