Rock was a proud graduate of Haughton High School where he excelled in multiple sports including football, basketball and track. He then attended Louisiana Tech University where he received his degree in Agricultural Education. Rock continued his football career as a place kicker at La Tech and was a member of the Kappa Alpha Fraternity. Following college Rock managed Power Cleaning systems for 23 years, then he and Rhonda started their own business R & R Power Services which he ran until his retirement in 2023.
Rock was a passionate sports fan, and loved hunting, fishing, camping and anything outdoors. He was a former member of the DOA Duck Club in Fouke, AR and a member of the F & F Deer Hunting club in Plain Dealing, LA where he enjoyed hunting with son Glenn. His happy place was on his tractor either bushhogging roads or lanes, or in the deer stand waiting on that big buck. From childhood he was a die-hard Arkansas Razorback fan. He loved HHS baseball and football and was at every game possible. Rock was a true Buccaneer in every sense of the word, being one of their biggest fans. His favorite spot at the HHS baseball games was sitting beside the home dugout where he always encouraged each player.
Rock is preceded in death by his parents, Boyce “Dude” Hensley and Dorothy Hensley, and brother Mark Hensley.
He is survived by his loving wife of 43 years Rhonda Rhodes Hensley, son Glenn Maynor and wife Nicole, sister Mitzi Hensley Kelly, brother Stan Hensley and wife Amee, all of Haughton. He is also survived by grandchildren, Emma Maynor, Landry Rivers and Paige Ramey, all of Haughton. Rock, affectionately known as ‘‘Pap” or “Papaw” was loved greatly by all of his grandchildren.
He is also survived by the following nieces and nephews, Kris Thompson, Mandi Thompson, Taylor Thompson-Williams, Hayden Hensley, Nick Hensley, Luke Hensley, Ashley Scoggins, Nathan Hensley, Lisa Trotter-Wilson, Walter Downey III, and Jason Downey, as well as several great nieces, great nephews, and many cousins. They all loved their Uncle Rock dearly.
Rocks best friends, Reggie Lewis and Rusty Williford were always up to something and doing things together, going to auto races, building or repairing something or catching beavers in the pond. And they usually were getting into some mischief wherever they went. Both have been so helpful to our family during his recent illnesses, and their families have been so kind to us.
Serving as pallbearers will be Reggie Lewis, Rusty Williford, Matthew Sewell, Hal Harlan, Kris Thompson, Hayden Hensley, Nick Hensley and Luke Hensley. Honorary pallbearers will be the F & F Deer Hunting Club.
The family would like to thank the staff at Bristol Hospice for their compassion and excellent care, and also the medical staff at Intensive Specialty Hospital and Rehab in Bossier City for their special care of Rock during his hospital stay.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in remembrance of Rock Hensley, to Haughton High School Baseball, 210 E. McKinley Ave. Haughton, LA 71037 or to the charity of your choice.
