Stanley “Stan” C. Johnson, 94, passed away Wednesday, June 5, 2024, at Willis-Knighton Bossier following a brief illness. Stan was born Friday, July 5, 1929, in Murray, Utah, to the late James C. and Dora Engebretson Johnson. He grew up in the Murray City area and pursued aviation as a lifelong career.
Stan attended Utah State University and later graduated from the University of Omaha. He enlisted in the United States Air Force in 1950. After receiving his pilot wings, Stan flew B-29 missions over North Korea and was in Japan when the Korean War ended. He served two tours of duty in Vietnam War. On the first tour, Stan flew 125 B-52 missions over Vietnam. On the second tour, he flew C-130 missions throughout Southeast Asia. Stan flew into Hanoi, North Vietnam when the war ended to receive the POW Airmen when they were released. He retired from the Air Force in 1973. Stan received many medals and decorations for his distinguished military flying career.
He flew as a corporate pilot for two years then became the Superintendent of Operations and retired in 1995 after twenty years of dedicated services for the Shreveport Regional and Downtown Airports. Stan simply couldn’t get away from airplanes. He was a command Pilot and has over 14,500 flying hours in military and civilian aircraft including helicopters.
Stan was a member of the LDS church, and other organizations were the Air Force Association, Military Officers Association, Order of Daedalians, NRA, VFW, American Legion, Civil Air Patrol, and The Confederate Air Force.
Left to cherish Stan’s wonderful memories are his beloved wife, Louise Walker Johnson, five children: Kellee Anderson, Karee Pocock, Jeffrey A. Johnson, Jay S. Johnson, Michael A. Liberto, fourteen grandchildren: Ashley Anderson Maratta, Courtney Anderson, Brian Anderson, Bradley Anderson, Karlee Anderson, Sara Pocock, Seth Pocock, Jared Pocock, April Johnson Bernard, Hannah Johnson, Collin Johnson, Chloe Johnson, Chelsea Liberto, Chase Liberto, fourteen great-grandchildren, two sisters, Elise Barnett and Sherry Johnson Meidell, one brother, James C. Johnson, along with many extended family members, and a host of wonderful friends.
Stan was preceded in passing by his parents, one sister, Maureen Eastwood, and one brother, William Johnson.
The family will be welcoming guests for visitation on Monday, June 10, 2024, from 5:00 PM – 7:00 PM in the chapel of Hill Crest Memorial Funeral Home, 601 Hwy 80, Haughton, Louisiana, 71037.
There will be a Celebration of Life service held for Stan on Tuesday, June 11, 2024, at 2:00 PM in the Chapel of Hill Crest Memorial Funeral Home, 601 Hwy 80, Haughton, Louisiana 71037 officiated by Brother Chris Keeny.
Interment will immediately follow on the grounds of Hill Crest Memorial, 601 Hwy 80, Haughton, Louisiana 71037.
Honoring Stan as pallbearers will be the United States Air Force, Kyle Comeaux, Myles Cavazos, Collin Johnson, Steven Walker, and Bobby Walker.
