Memorial Services honoring Bill's life will be held on Saturday, November 6, 2021 at 11:00 am, at Hill Crest Memorial Funeral Home Chapel in Haughton, Louisiana. There will be a visitation with food and fellowship immediately following the service in the Hospitality Room.
Bill was preceded in death by his parents, Alvin and Arenas Wood. Left to cherish his memory is his wife of 50 years, Linda woods; his son, William A. Wood Jr. and daughter-in-law, Amanda Wood; his son, Andy Wood and daughter-in-law, Jennifer Wood; his grandchildren, Nicolas Putch and wife Jade, Emily Wood, Alyssa Wood, Aubrey Wood, and Addison Wood. Also left to cherish is his sister and brother-in-law, Cindy and Chuck McGaughey and family; sister-in-law Rhonda Johnson and family; brother-in-law, Mike Herren and family; sister-in-law, Sally Allen and family, and numerous other relatives and treasured friends.
Bill was retired and enjoying that to its fullest. Bill enjoyed fishing and was a HUGE Cowboy's fan. Bill spent a lot of time outside watching the birds, listening to 7.10 Keel (He loved talk radio). Bill never met a stranger and was the kindest man, he was a man of few words, so when he spoke you knew it would be insightful, funny or about football. Bill loved his grandchildren beyond measure and was so proud of each and every one of them. With his oldest grandson recently married, Bill was elated with the possibility of great-grandchildren in the near future. Halloween was one of Bill's favorite Holidays getting to see all the kids in their costumes and giving out candy was something he really enjoyed.
While Bill most likely married Linda for her good looks, he got an added bonus of a wife who is an outstanding cook; so the holidays meant all the good fixings he loved on one table. Bill and Linda celebrated their 50th Wedding Anniversary this year and to see them is to see what "True Love" looks like. Linda said their favorite times were sitting on the patio, drinking coffee and reminiscing about all the good times they have had during their 50 short years of marriage. Bill and Linda had a standing double date night weekly with their best friend Charlie and Pat Jones, which usually ended with a good game of Yahtzee. (Bill usually won) Bill was always so kind and thoughtful to Linda and loved to spoil her rotten. He will be missed beyond words by all who knew him!
The family would like to extend a special thank you to the Willis Knighton North ICU staff and the Intensive Specialty Hospital on Viking Drive Staff, the care, consideration and selflessness during this unbearable time was a blessing.
