My sincere condolences on your loss.  Quite frankly I had not talked to Stephen since high school.  He was a great friend and even in those days I knew he would become a genuine husband and father along with being a  fantastic attorney.  I was so sad to hear of his passing.  Please know , that in his youth he was well liked and respected by all, I was always impressed with how smart he was, and knew one day he would be a great lawyer.  I remember days when he would come over to our house and ask to play the piano, not only did I love to hear him play , my parents enjoyed as well.  He will be greatly missed. Again, my sincere condolences .

I was a classmate of Steve’s at Yale College.  I have many fond memories of him playing piano in the Davenport common room.  What a multitalented person!  More than that though, I remember him consoling me one day sophomore year.  He could see I was having a tough day and he sat with me awhile and helped me put my problem in perspective and cheered me up.  What a great person he was.  I want to share  my sincere condolences to his friends and family. 

Steve and I were very close friends in law school ('87), and then when we clerked in the same courthouse, and for some years after, saw each other regularly.   Steve was warm, kind, fun, funny, spirited, deeply interesting and deeply interested.  He knew what it took to be a good friend, and delivered, and appreciated in equal measure friendship returned.   He was obviously brilliant, but wore it so lightly.  And he had unquestionable integrity.

We had one source of connection in the fact that our parents were very good friends going back to the 1960s.  We knew each other's stories.

We shared many great times together, but specially appreciated the times we spent with our parents, as on Mother's Day 1988 when Steve, myself and my parents surprised his mother for a long lunch when she came to New York City.

We reconnected a dozen years ago, saw each other occasionally, and in the best possible way, Steve had not changed.

May his memory be a blessing.




Nataly - I never met you, and I haven't touched base with Steve since I graduated years ago from Yale Law, but his passing struck a chord. Steve was a year behind me, but that mattered little at Yale, and I was the director of the student show -- the Yale Law Revue.  Steve was my musical director and co-creator, and his parody of Prince's "Raspberry Beret" rings in my mind to this day.  He was sweet, smart, gifted, and I don't think anyone didn't smile when his name was mentioned. I am smiling right now as I type it.  The world has lost an incredible soul, and the thoughts of my family are with you during this difficult time.

Steve and I shared many treasured adventures as Yale Law classmates and as summer associates in ‘86 NYC.  He had a gentle heart and a kind disposition and a mischievous eye for fun. I shall miss him immensely.

I would like to share my condolences and that of my German family, Eleonore (Hasi) Murray, Johann (Jan) Lüllmann, Gunnar (Gunni) Fritsche and Marina Klein. From Spain, I extend the condolences of María Jesús Rodríguez Zarauz. To all of the Neuwirth family and friends, we share your pain.  Sadly, one of the things I shared with Steve (and Kit Schmeisser, a mutual friend), was the loss of a parent at a young age. I know what this means. So my heart breaks, in particular, for you four beautiful young men, Steve and Nathalie's children. Steve consoled me at my own mother's funeral so I hope you will permit me to offer a thought in return. That feeling of loss never goes away--I still feel mine today. But this can be both both good and bad. My loss awakened me to life's brevity and helped me focus on the truly essential--in my case, my family and friends. It also taught me empathy. So from something that had no rhyme or reason, I extracted some good. I pray that you learn, with time, to put this truly immeasurable loss in its appropriate place in your hearts and learn to live your lives with the utmost of love and happiness and joy as your father would surely want.

I worked extensively with Steve in 2013-2015 when we were representing Ahold (a supermarket chain) together and visited NY numerous times in that period. I got to know Steve not only as a brilliant lawyer, but as a family man, sports fanatic, friend and great company. He was fun to be around, personable and always talking about his family ands ports. I was shocked to see the news of his passing. You must miss him so much, as he will be missing all of you right now. I wish you strength and peace in this terrible time.

I’m so very sorry to learn of Steve’s passing. We were college classmates, and I admired and even revered him for his wit, intelligence, and warmth. My heartfelt condolences go out to his family.

So sorry that the world has lost this brilliant mind. I will always remember Steve playing the piano and organ in synagogue when he was just a teenager. So much talent and energy. Condolences to his brothers and to all of his family and friends.
