Bud was born June 22, 1923 in Winter, WI to James and Kathryn (Steelman) Smith.
He married Margaret Rutka November 1, 1969 in Hayward, Wisconsin. She preceded him in death on November 10, 2003.
Bud went by Axe Handle Smith, he handmade large and small wood axe handles, spoons with a jack knife, axe, and sandpaper.
Among those who survive and gratefully shared his life are his daughter Kathryn “Katie” (James) Marucha; three grandchildren Ryan, William Arthur, and George; two brothers Orin (Mary) Smith, Kenneth Smith.
He is preceded in death by his parents and seven half brothers and sisters.
