I met Al through baseball in ‘93.  We drove to Phoenix together for the “Old man” World Series.  We also roomed together for a week and became good friends.  He was a very special person.  We hung out a few times after that back in OC .  
I moved to Austin a year later or I’m sure we would have continued to stay close.  
He was so charismatic and likable.  He made you feel like a close friend very quickly.  You couldn’t not like Al.
It was so very tragic to loose him.  It really affected me when I read about it several years ago.  I wish I had written this at the time.  
I really hurt for his children and family.

Albert and I grew up across the street from each other in Anaheim.  Our parents were friends.  I knew all the Schardt kids, but Albert was my best friend.  Albert and his whole family in Anaheim were wonderful, kind people.

My heart is so sad for my sister, Debra Schardt, who was Albert's 1st wife and married to him for 20 years, and their sons, Evan and Shiloh. Debra has always said that he was the love of her life, and how lucky he was to have had such a faithful wife for as long as he did, and two children who are such nice young men. They will remember the good times and hold them dear to their hearts.

Ahhh, Al, my baby brother at Coke. What a character you are! You always greeted me every morning at Coke with a great big smile and "the stance" which always cracked me up! I'll truly miss your playfulness and sincereness. I am truly blessed you are my friend. You will always be in my heart and prayers baby brother from another mother. Love you. My sincere condolences to our family and friends. Thank you God for Al.

I would like to express my deepest sympathy over your loss. Recently Albert reconnected with me after all of these years. I will always be grateful I got to talk to him one last time. He was a great kid in our neighborhood growing up. We had so many good times together through all of our school years spent together. He was always full of laughter. When I picture him in my mind he is wearing his baseball uniform and a big smile. I will always remember him and the many wonderful years we had with him.
