

She was born on Thursday, April 17, 1952 in Barranquilla, Colombia to her parents, Guillermo and Ana Cote. She was one of five children. After high school, Amelia married William Sheffield with whom she had four sons. She went on to pursue a career in education while being a full-time mother to her sons. Amelia began her career as an instructional aide. After 25 years, she divorced and through sheer perseverance went on to earn her Bachelor degree and teaching credential and became a teacher to make a better life for her sons. While working as a teacher, Amelia met, Richard "Mike" Olinger. Amelia and Mike got married in Laughlin, Nevada on June 19, 2004. Together, Amelia and Mike enjoyed travelling and going to concerts. In her spare time, Amelia enjoyed reading, sewing, knitting, and gardening. Amelia was smart, loving, and caring. She was an amazing mother and dedicated wife. She was known for her great love of babies! She loved playing with them and teaching them to swim.
Amelia will be missed by all that knew her. She was preceded in death by her father, Guillermo Cote, and her brother, Willie Cote. Amelia is survived by her husband, Richard "Mike" Olinger, her mother, Ana Cote, her sons, Chad (Briana) Sheffield, Jason (Melissa) Sheffield, Mark Sheffield, and Shawn Sheffield, her siblings, Yvonne (John) McGee, Olga (Dennis) Rogers, and Ray (Maxine) Cote, 11 nieces and nephews, 10 great-nieces & nephews, five grandchildren and one on the way.
