

Born Thursday, September 8, 1921 in Bridgeport, CT, he was the husband of Rae Bassett whom he met in high school in 1939 on a blind date and they married the next year and were married for 77 years. They were true high school sweethearts. Since they started dating during the Great Depression, for fun, Arthur and Rae and a lot of their friends would pile up in his Ford Model T and head to the beach.
After high school, Arthur served in the U.S. Army during World War II as a Technician 5th Grade in the 146th Combat Battalion. For serving in the war, the government gave the family 5 lots of land each on 5 acres in Sage for the family to build homes on, and for the next several years, Arthur and his brothers-in-law built homes on the land.
Arthur spent most of his career as a letter carrier for the U.S. Postal Service for 35 years before retiring in his 50s. He and Rae loved to travel, they traveled throughout Asia, Europe and visited every state in the U.S. They also enjoyed taking trips with Arthur's sisters and their husbands.
He was very close to his family, and for 29 years Arthur and Rae played poker with his family every week.
Surviving are wife, Rae Bassett, daughter, Virginia White, son, Raymond (Lisa) Bassett, daughter, Nancy Bassett, Susan Bassett, son, Arthur (Jennifer) Bassett and daughter, Martha (Eric) Bassett-Ferguson, 6 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren.
A funeral service will be at 9:45 AM on Wednesday, Nov. 28, 2018 at Riverside National Cemetery located at 22495 Van Buren Boulevard Riverside, CA. Interment will be in Riverside National Cemetery, Riverside, CA.
