

Bob Dan Decker was born December 16, 1928 in Columbus, Ohio and went to be with the Lord on November 7, 2011 in Moreno Valley, California. After earning a master's degree in romance languages from The Ohio State University, he served two years in the U.S. Army Signal Corp, serving in Georgia. He began his career in Ohio, teaching Spanish at all levels and French in junior college. Later, moving to California in 1960, taught Spanish at Jordan High School in Long Beach for most of his career until he was promoted to Foreign Language Specialist for LBUSD and retired at 62.
An aficionado of Mexican culture and history, he pursued his love of writing and published several books in the United States and Mexico; five in his last few years, which he considered a legacy to his family. He joins his beloved wife of 48 years, Esther, and his loving grandson, Matthew who preceded him in death in 2002. He is survived by daughters Arlene and Linda, son-in-laws, James and David, and a son Robert and daughter-in-law Patty. He also leaves behind grandchildren Allison, Lindsay, Bryan, Lauren, and Lacey, and sister Beverly Babbert.
Bob touched the lives of many with his talents and abilities as a teacher, writer, and musician. He will forever be remembered for his quick wit and eloquence as he engaged listeners with his knowledge and trivia. He attended Shepherd of the Valley Lutheran Church where he was a regular reader and known for his "booming radio voice". He was a member of the Bucks and Does social group where he made lasting friendships while enjoying countless events and travels. He was a devoted husband, father, father-in-law, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend who will forever be in our hearts.
