Beloved husband, father, and grandfather, he was taken from us on October 16th, 2014. Chuck was born in Washington Courthouse, Ohio, on July 27, 1934, to Byron and Pearl Butters. He joined the Army at the age of 19 years old and served a tour of duty in South Korea. He continued to serve his country in the United States Air Force with tours in North Carolina, Colorado, France, Germany, Guam, and eventually at March AFB, California, until his retirement in 1977. After retiring from the military, Chuck worked for the U.S. Postal Service for the next 20 years.
Chuck has had many joys and passions in life and he lived them to the fullest. First and foremost was always his family. He enjoyed travelling all over the country and the world with his wife Vicki. He was an avid fan of race cars or anything that had an engine. He loved NASCAR. In his youth he raced stock cars before NASCAR even existed; later on he became a winning extreme off-road racer. He had the passion, appreciation and skills for restoring old cars. He won many awards and much recognition for turning old junk into beauty. His accomplishments have always spoken for themselves. He was a very proud man and he had every reason to be.
A long time resident of Moreno Valley, California, and then San Jacinto, California, Chuck is survived by Vicki, his wonderful wife of nearly 57 years; his sister Carole Ford of Columbus, Ohio; children Terry Butters of Moreno Valley, California; Cindy Hartsog of Poway, California; and Kristy Butters of Perris, California; and six grandchildren: Sara, Scott, Eric, Ashley, Michael, and Adam. He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Byron, sister Gloria, and granddaughter Sara.
In lieu of flowers or donations, the family requests considering donations to the American Heart Association, or the American Kidney Foundation.
