

Charles "Chuck" Wesley Mathews, 95, passed away on Saturday, August 10, 2019, in Hemet, California. He was born November 20, 1923 in West Los Angeles, California to Raymond and Lola Mathews. As a child, Chuck was very active and loved gymnastics. You could always find him swinging on the rings and parallel bars at Stoner Park. As a young adult, Chuck proudly served as a Corporal in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II, in the China-Burma -India Campaign. After his time in the military, Chuck spent over 40 years working as a serviceman for the Southern California Gas Company. He was the loving and devoted father of two daughters and later in life married the love of his life, Ruth Dover. He was both a hard worker and family man. When he wasn't busy working, Chuck was an avid bowler, and once bowled a 300 game. He also enjoyed gambling at the casino, playing video poker. His other interests included fishing, body surfing at the beach, watching golf, boxing and bowling on TV and going to the movies. Chuck loved a good cheeseburger, but he also had a sweet tooth for milkshakes and chocolate from See's Candies. He had a great sense of humor, and was a very sweet, kind, and generous man. Chuck was preceded in death by his parents, Raymond and Lola Mathews, and his brother Raymond. He is survived by his wife, Ruth Mathews, his daughters, Denise Mathews, Diane (Sue Naumes) Mathews and Jan Hancock, his brother, Gilbert Mathews, his grandchildren, Renee (Jon) Guastella, Lauren Kernen, Madison Mathews-Martin and Michael (Linsey) Dover, his great-grandchildren, Jayden Kernen and Olivia Guastella, along with ten beloved nieces and nephews. A military graveside service will be held at Riverside National Cemetery on Thursday, August 15, 2019 at 10:15 AM. A Celebraton of Life will be held on Saturday, August 17, 2019 at the Miller-Jones Mortuary Ramona Room from 1:00 PM-3:00 PM.
