Daniel Frederick Mesa (“Danny” or “Dan”), aged 59, passed away peacefully at home in Hemet, California on January 17, 2023 after a 5 year struggle with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS). Daniel was born March 28, 1963 in Long Beach, California to Daniel Mesa (1932-2016) and Dorinne Mesa (Pender, b. 1937). Daniel was predeceased by his father Daniel Mesa, and younger brother, Dana Mesa. He is survived by mother Dorinne Mesa, brothers Tom, Rod, Steve, and Larry Mesa, and devoted wife and caregiver, Nichola (Nicky) Mesa. He also had many nieces and nephews that he delighted in spoiling with copious amounts of fun, laughter and love. He was a longtime professional construction worker who, later in life, decided to invest in his already brilliant brain and realized a lifelong goal by completing his Bachelor of Arts degree in Geology at Cal State San Bernardino in 2016. During the time he was devoting his life to his studies, he also met his wife Nicky of Newcastle upon Tyne, England, in 2011 and they married in 2016, beginning a long and arduous journey to help her obtain Permanent Residency in the U.S. Their forced time apart created an inseparable bond, and culminated in much joy when Nicky became a resident in 2017. Within a year’s time, he received the devastating and terminal diagnosis of ALS. The progressive neurodegenerative nature of the disease meant that Dan and Nicky would spend all of the remainder of his days together, as she became his most fierce advocate, and full time caregiver. An avid sports fan, Daniel had an infectious spirit and larger than life personality - “crazy,” some would say. Boisterous, passionate, and unapologetic, the effects of ALS were swift and clear. His life was mourned long before his death - only love lit the darkness of his worsening condition. Because he always loved a good time, his family will be hosting a Celebration of Life on Saturday, February 4, 2023 at the Sunburst Mobile Home Park clubhouse, located at 1895 W Devonshire Ave, Hemet, CA 92545, from 12-4pm. The family requests donations be made to the ALS Association at als.org, an organization Daniel felt strongly about.
