Donovan played football throughout much of his life. His coach at Heritage High School, Kraig Broach said Donovan played almost every play of every game, excelling in offense, defense and special teams. "I can't say enough good things about him. He was really energetic and positive and had a lot of personality. He was a leader at the school and on the campus. Kids were really drawn to him. He was really one of the best kids and the best people I have been around."
In January 2011, Donovan was named to the CIF Southern Section's Eastern Division all-section team. He graduated from Heritage High School in 2011.
Donovan attended Fort Lewis College in Durango, Colorado, where he played football last fall but did not return after the Christmas break. He wanted to be closer to home, and was taking classes at Riverside Community College until he could enroll at another four-year college. He was interested in a career in sports medicine or coaching. His mother said, "He wanted to get out there and make a difference,"
He is survived by his mother, Eileen Adams; sister, Te'onna Adams; brother, Ray Adams II; grandparents, uncles and aunts and many many friends.
A memorial for Donovan will be held Saturday, June 16th at Heritage High School on Briggs Road in Homeland. A tailgate party is expected to start about 4:30 p.m. followed by a ceremony about 7 p.m. in the Briggs Road stadium.
