

Eric Calvin Schmidt, 84, of Winchester, CA passed away on Sunday, November 20, 2011, at the Cornell House in Hemet, CA. Born Saturday, August 6, 1927, he was the husband of the late Viola Schmidt who passed away in March of 2005. They were married for 55 years. Eric was a building inspector specializing in roofing for over 30 years. He worked for Disney World in Florida for many years and was the Space Mountain ride inspector. He was also called out of retirement by Warner Bros. after the earthquake in 1989 to inspect roofs on their properties during the World Series. Eric liked to gamble and made many visits to Laughlin and Las Vegas. His favorite sport was horse racing. He was known to put a lot of notes in the margins on each horse and jockey to make sure he made the right bet. Eric was well traveled and would help anyone that was down and out on their luck especially family and grandkids. He was the type of person who could walk into a room a stranger and walk out with a friend. Eric was very social and loving person. One of his better-known quotes was, "Come here, I gotta tell you a story." He liked to visit the local Yankee Doodle Donut Shop, have coffee, and share stories with his friends there.
Surviving are daughters, Lisa Stephens, Pamela Haney, and Debra Ycedo; brother, Donald Schmidt; eleven grandchildren; and ten great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in passing by his wife, Viola Schmidt and son, Robert Myers.
