Fred was born September 9, 1945, in Cheyenne where he lived most of his life until relocating to Palm Desert, California. Fred served in the United States Army, and fought in the Vietnam War. After serving the Army, Fred returned to Cheyenne, where he worked for AMF Wyott.
He was a member of American Legion Post No. 6, Fraternal Order of the Eagles and Loyal Order of the Moose where he served as governor. He was a avid bowler, and served on the board of directors of the Cheyenne Men's Bowling Association.
Fred is survived by his sons, Michael Volz and partner David of Cathedral City and Timothy Volz and wife Ruthanne of Austin Texas; his grandchildren Christopher and Laurie Ann Volz; his mother Violet Volz; sister Valonda and brother-in-law Michael Wood of Palm Desert California; niece Lisa Malecke and nephew Steve Wood. He was preceded in death by his father Gerald Volz.
