August 20, 1931 - January 1, 2013
George Homer Smith, Jr., 81, of Sun City, California died on January 1, 2013. We know he is finally at peace as he is now resting eternally with his loving wife of 40 years who he has genuinely missed since she preceded him in death five years ago in 2007.
George grew up one of seven kids on a farm in Missouri and upon high school graduation he entered into the Navy for a 20 year career where he spent his time on various submarines, of which diesels were his favorite. He made some great lifelong friends there and was very thankful to be in contact with them up to his passing day.
He also worked at Convair in San Diego, CA where he met and soon married the love of his life, Frances L. Smith in the early 70's and with that he became a "Bonus Dad" to two children. Finally he spent many years working at the Coca-Cola Company until he decided to enjoy retirement. He lived a full life and was a wonderful provider for the whole family.
George was a very organized, opinionated and responsible man with a sarcastic dry sense of humor that everyone could count on. He was also a great handyman and very creative in woodwork. Other activities he enjoyed were fishing, reading, watching westerns and camping, back in the day.
Survivors include his daughter Karen Mercier, his son Keith Kruse and his 5 grandchildren; Jordan,18; Konnor,15; Chasen,14; Colsen,9 and Kameron,8.
He was a "One of a Kind" and will stay "FOREVER IN OUR HEARTS".
Services have been held and he is laid to rest with his wife at Riverside National Cemetery.
