Ishmael Mohammed was born on January 7, 1946 to his Father Mohammed Edoo and Mother Kahiroon Edoo. He was the middle child in a family of three brothers, and 1 younger sister. The eldest of the brothers being Harold, then Ishmael, and finally Ronald being the youngest. They lived in St. Charles Village, Princess Town in Trinidad.
He and his younger brother, Ronald, grew up on the small Caribbean island then taken to St. Thomas, Virgin Islands by his older brother, Harold, who was currently working at HOVENSA. He then picked up a cable splicing job soon after, and fell in love with Jocelyn Linda Singh, they raised 2 boys Kurt and Lyndon. In 1977, he had his first-born daughter Natasha Nadia Raquel Mohammed.
Not too long after, they moved to the United States for better opportunities. In 1980, he had his last daughter Ishmin Kristal Mohammed. While he now had a full family of six, he worked in telecommunications pioneering and laying the foundation for expanding the cellular coverage, that we use today, to areas such as Murrieta, Idyllwild, Beaumont, and Banning etc. He was the best in the business and was envied by many by his work ethic and passion. This led to him receiving two awards for excellence at his job. He even started up his own company called Ish-Communications.
In 2010, his wife had fallen ill with stomach cancer the first time. He devoted all his time to stay by her side supporting and speaking for her when she could not throughout all those years when she had her second run in with cancer. Years later in 2019 when he was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer it was now our time to speak and support him. In the mid-summer of 2019, late July, he was diagnosed with Stage 4 Pancreatic Cancer. We were honored and privileged to fight with him, until the battle came to an end. In early November on a quiet, still Tuesday morning at 5:45, he took his last breath surrounded by the warmth of his family. You will never be forgotten as a loving brother, uncle, husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, and friend. You were taken from us too early but as you use to say, “Life is such.” We will be sure to show and tell Ocean how amazing you were. Until we meet again, we love you, Village Ram.
