

Joann Elizabeth Johnson, 90, passed away on Tuesday, May 19, 2020, in San Jacinto, California. She was born on Thursday, August 01, 1929 in Glendale, California, to her parents, Ira Joe and Margarite Mahaffey. She graduated from Bell Gardens High School in 1948. Three months following her graduation, she married the love of her life, Walter Johnson. Joann and Walter had two children together. Joann was a dedicated wife and loving mother. She was also a hard worker and a jack of all trades. Some of her many occupations included waitressing, retail, undercover store detective, and she even worked as a Hawaiian dancer. Her usual occupation, however, was a government inspector for 17 years. Joann was also part of many organizations and groups. Joann was a member of the Civil Air Patrol and the President of the PTA. She also was a representative for Avon and a Reservist Police Officer. Joann was a truly remarkable woman. She was vivacious, charismatic, and kind. She was always giving back to her community and anyone could count on her. She will be greatly missed by all that knew her. She was preceded in death by her parents, Ira Joe and Margarite Mahaffey, her husband, Walter Johnson, and her son, Larry J. Johnson. Joann is survived by her daughter, Irene A. Schaefer, her grandchildren, Katy Miller and Joanna Smith, and her great-grandchildren, Jameson Miller, Scarlett Miller, Nixon Smith, Emmakae Smith, and Kaelee Smith. Joann will be laid to rest with her husband, Walter, at Riverside National Cemetery.
Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the care of Miller-Jones Mortuary.
