I just found out this evening Larry passed away through a mutual friend D.G. We lost touch over the years but I  would see a YouTube and was always amazed at his gift.

I met Larry in the mid-80s through the 2 guitar players I was working with. We honestly didn't always see eye-to-eye but that doesn't mean I thought he was less of a good guy and I respected his ability so a guitar player beyond words. Larry could go from playing Van Halen to Journey to Country with such ease and his attention to detail in the settings of his amplifier (and this was before amplifiers had come to the level of versatility they are today with just a push of a button!).

All of us with Larry had lots of laughs, lots of late nights, lots of going through McDonald's come sunrise ordering 20 sausage McMuffins. Just another reminder of how short life is Sadly we had many mutual friends and acquaintances that left us too soon and I hope he's jamming with them tonight on the final leg of his journey and smiling!

Prayers to his son and many loved ones. Imagining him jamming with so many good friends I can only hope they save a chair for me when my time comes.

I found out tonight from my friend R.E. of Larry's passing.  As with everyone else, I was in complete shock.  Larry & I have not seen each other since the early 90's and soon after I moved up to Northern California.

Larry and I met during our freshman year in high school.  He went by Ace (Ace Frehley fan) back then, used to draw the Foghat logo on the class room chalkboards and played the guitar.

I was then a budding guitarist and he was a big influence on me because of his inborn talent for the guitar was out of this world and we subsequently learned from each other as time went on.

What great times we all had back in the day!
Jamming guitar, swimming in their pool, hanging out in his room listening to great music, going to concerts & clubs and watching him play in his bands.

I remember when he, his brother Ron and I went to see Pink Floyd The Wall concert and was show to never forget.

It seemed everyone we knew played some instrument so jams seemed to be a constant on our area.

I could continue with a lot more as so many memories were made in our teens and 20s.

I see that Larry's magnetic personality and magic fingers on his guitar garnered him many a friend from all over and touched the lives of many.

John Henney (Drummer Extraordinaire) posted his memories of Larry and what an incredible line up those two were together and especially with Scott (from Chicago - Fòtnitze) on bass guitar.

Larry was a Class Act! We worked together at the Studio cafe for many years. He was always Happy and fun to work with, a true gentleman. I’ll never forget one day seeing him on The Jenny Jones show. It was about this kid he went to school with who was in a wheel chair. He said a lot of kids made fun of him until Larry befriended him, and stood up for him and he wanted to bring him on the show to Thank him for being such a kind person. Larry was surprised and very Modest about it. He is someone I will always remember with fondness. My condolences to Cindy, and family. I only just found out or I would have come to services, if the bands hold a memorial would love to go. I’m so glad I went to see the band a few weeks ago after my heart attack. I got to have one of his big bear hugs. Love you Larry

Larry and I met as teenagers and became instant jam buddies, me on drums and Larry, of course, on guitar. We spent countless hours in my mom's garage, playing Jeff Beck and original jams.  

Even with my teen energy, I could not keep up with the force that was Larry Green. No matter how long we had played, Larry wanted to keep going. "Let's play one more" he would beg, and the bass player and I would drag our exhausted selves back to our instruments.

And PLAY Larry did - it was his gift.  The pure joy of simply playing the guitar never left him.

Recently, Larry had reached out to get together and, of course, play. 

I told him I was so slammed with work - I couldn't.

This week, as I tried to absorb the terrible news, I thought of Larry's offer to just stop,,,,,

....and play.

With tears in my eyes, I put down my work, picked up a guitar.... and played - if not with a fraction of Larry's skill, at least a small part of his joy.

Of all the gifts Larry has left to us, this is the one I will keep with me - each day, take a small moment to just play.

I first met Larry about 30 years ago when he and Tricia started playing together. I have so many memories of Larry over the years and most of them involved him making me laugh with his quick wit, hilarious impersonations and voices, and just his overall goofiness. Also Larry and I along with a dear friend Sandra Milan, 17 years ago, survived an early morning fire in the tri-plex we were all living in at the time. I lived upstairs in the back and Larry and Sandy were in the downstairs front unit. The fire apparently started in their back bedroom while they were asleep in the front bedroom. I was getting ready for work when I noticed the smoke and flames coming from downstairs. I immediately picked up the phone and called 911 as I raced down the steps yelling FIRE FIRE! Everyone get out. They both awoke hearing my screams barely making it out the front door. If I remember correctly neither one of them even had time to put on any clothes before emerging from the smoke and flames that had engulfed the building. The reason Im sharing this story with you is because after that day and nearly cheating death, we always shared a special bond in experiencing that day together. When we would talk periodically over the years we would always reminice about it and express how lucky we all felt to be alive. My heart is aching now that this dear sole has been taken from us way too early. I still can't believe it. You were a bright light in so many peoples lives. You will be missed but never forgotten! ALL of us that had even a few moments with Larry have something very special that he gave us during that time. Could very well be something that we all needed to help us along in this difficult life. I know that to be true for myself. God greatly used Larry for His purpose, even before he came to know the Lord. Now all those people that came into his life before that, if they haven’t yet, will see and hear his amazing testimony. God is still working...

I only met Larry a couple of years ago, but we immediately hit it off. Such a sweet, kind man, and a monster of a musician. One thing that stands out. In a time when everybody only texts each other, Larry was one of my friends who would just call you up and shoot the shit. Recently as I was on my way to Mike Lipe's memorial, Larry called me to make sure I was coming. I assured him that I was. And I assure him now that I will be there for his as well. Rest in peace my friend.
