Retired elementary school teacher Mary Boulton’s love of life didn’t come to an end with her death. Mary passed away on March 30, 2021 at the age of 75 after a courageous battle with dementia, surrounded by loved ones who will continue to honor her legacy by living their lives to the fullest.
Mary was born on November 20, 1945 in Quincy, Illinois. She moved to Redwood City, California as a young child. She met and married the love of her life, Jim in Redwood City in 1966. They moved to Phoenix, Arizona for a few years and eventually relocated to Hemet, California in 1974.
After Mary’s young children started school, she decided it was time to start her life as a teacher. Mary completed her Bachelor’s degree at California State University, San Bernardino. After teaching a few years, she went back to school to complete a Master’s degree in education at Azusa Pacific University. Mary’s heart and soul was with Hemet Elementary, her students, and sharing her passion for learning with children.
The simplest pleasures in life brought great joy to Mary. She loved a dinner out with friends, a weekend with her grandchildren, or playing with her dog. During school breaks she enjoyed traveling and spending extra time with her family. She had an uncanny ability to make her friends and family feel like they were the most important person in the world. Her friendly personality was contagious to everyone she met. Mary is survived by her daughter Karen (son-in-law Jason); son Dan (daughter-in-law Cari); sister Sue (brother-in-law Clyde); and granddaughters, Lauren, Leah, Allie, and Jenny. She was preceded in death by her parents, William and Evelyn; her sister, Liliah; and her husband of 23 years, Jim.
In lieu of flowers, Mary would like donations for scholarships to be made to the Tau Eta chapter of Beta Sigma Phi, care of Carol Goldbach, 785 N. Hemet St., Hemet, CA. 92544.
