

Phyllis Marie Rich

Phyllis Marie Rich, resident of Hemet, California passed away on Saturday morning September 10, 2022 at VNA Home Health and Hospice in Jurupa Valley, California. She was born in Campbell Ohio, the fifth of seven children of Frank M. Rich (LaRiccia) and Julia Giangiacomo Rich. Phyllis attended grammar school and high school in Loraine Ohio. After graduating from St. Mary's High School, Phyllis entered the Sisters of the Good Shepherd Convent in Cincinnati, Ohio from 1954 until 1978, serving Cleveland and Cincinnati.
Phyllis received a Bachelor of Science Degree from the Dominican College in Columbus and a Master’s Degree in Social Work from Ohio State University, Columbus. She worked with the State of Ohio Department of Health for 8 years and Cuyahoga County Department of Children’s Services, Cleveland Catholic Charities and Cleveland Visiting Nurse Association Hospice - a work she dearly loved.
In 1994 Phyllis moved to Southern California to be near her family and escape the cold winters of Northern Ohio. She worked with the Ramona VNA Home Health and Hospice in Hemet and upon retiring she worked part time at Ramona VNA and provided some pre-need sales at Miller-Jones Mortuary, Hemet.
Phyllis enjoyed singing for many years with the Sweet Adeline’s, International. She loved going to the beach, musical theater and Italian food and anything chocolate. In her next life she promises she will not be diabetic. She loved animals, especially dogs and very especially all of her Shelter Collies. She was very proud of her life long friendships with her club friends from high school, who still continue to meet for ongoing fun activities and to share and support each other and celebrate friendships that, like a fine bottle of wine, only get better through the years.
Phyllis was active in Altar and Rosary Society and Mission Circle at Our Lady of the Valley in Hemet.
She was predeceased by her parents, brothers Frank and John, sisters Louise and Palma. She is survived by her brother Joseph and sister RoseMary of Hemet as well as numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
A memorial mass will be held at Our Lady of the Valley Catholic Church located at 780 S. State Street in Hemet on Saturday, October 1, 2022 at 11 am. Interment will be at Mission San Luis Rey, Oceanside California, on Tuesday, October 18 at 11 am. In lieu of flowers donations to Shriners Childrens’ Hospital or a special pet rescue will be appreciated.
