He has joined his beloved parents, brother, eldest daughter Barbara "Bobbi" Niemeyer, and extended family who have passed before him.
Bob was born in Santa Monica, CA to Ralph and Mildred Schurr where he grew up with his brother Ralph Schurr. He had recently started his 3rd book, 'Bob Schurr Against the World, "Singlehanded", about his childhood, following being born with malformations of his right chest, arm, and hand.
As a young man he was a speed skater and cyclist.
Bob was a highly capable, talented, and skilled man. He could do anything he set his mind to. He would fix and modify things for his use. He could make you laugh when you least expected it, even when his memory was fading.
Bob had varied vocations and skills including being a mechanic, working in his parents’ hobby shop (the beloved Palisades Hobby) for many years, a vocalist and musician (trumpet and guitar), song writer, radio DJ, an author, and he worked with children. He dreamed of having a successful music career. He was very proud of his relatives who had been in the military and tried to join in his youth. He was an honorary member of the American Legion in Big Bear, CA.
Bob is remembered for helping to create a stable upbringing in his blended families with fond memories of childhood family gatherings, camping, boating, swimming, and waterskiing. He was a role model for perseverance and striving to do your best.
Bob is survived by his daughter Loni Low, stepchildren, Cindee Langstaff, Jeannie Burk, Chris McDonald, and Candy Hoover, grandchildren Christine Chavez, Rocky Brandon and Sabrina Low, great grandchildren Kaiden Selig and Paige Chavez, plus extended family.
His wishes were to be cremated and scattered over the ocean. He had life-changing surgeries at age 25 to improve the use of his hand, free of charge. In lieu of flowers, please donate to St. Jude or other charities that provide free services to those in need of medical care.
Many thanks to his dear friends, companions, and neighbors for being there to help and support him during his time in Hemet, CA.
