

Arnold “Arnie” Mortensen, age 94, of Boulder City, Nevada passed away on Monday, December 27, 2021. He was born on January 8, 1927, in Glendale, California to his parents Eli and Ila Mortensen. He had one sibling, sister, Elsa Evans (deceased). Arnie attended school in Glendale, California and graduated in 1945. He was a manager on the Varsity Track Team.
Arnie is a Veteran of the U.S. Navy and served during World War II. He enlisted on November 1, 1944, as Apprentice Seaman at Los Angeles, California, reported for active duty on November 25th, 1944, and was transferred to Naval Training Center in San Diego, California. On September 19, 1945, he completed Navy Training Course and was certified in Electric Arc Welding. Arnie was released and honorably discharged from active duty on July 23, 1946, as a Fireman First Class from Personnel Separation Center, Terminal Island, San Pedro, California.
In 1946, Arnie met his first wife, Sally Mortensen. They married and lived in Louisiana. While living in Louisiana he painted cars in New Orleans and Savannah. Arnie and Sally moved to Boulder City in 1952 and bought their home on Avenue L in 1962. They lived together in their home until 1982 when Sally passed away. They were married 31 years.
Arnie worked for the Bureau of Mine in Boulder City for two years as a painter and in 1954 he joined the U.S. Postal Service and carried mail in the city for 30 years. He was a recipient of Certificate of Excellence in 1975 after 21 years of service. The certificate was in recognition of outstanding performance in the Western Postal Region’s “Pride in Excellence” program, established to give recognition to clerks and carriers who demonstrated very high levels of courtesy, efficiency, and helpfulness in dealing with their customers. Arnie retired from the U.S. Postal Service in 1984.
In 1984, Arnie married his forever love and best friend, Eleanor “Sissy” Mortensen. They lived together on Avenue L and shared a wonderful life and marriage for 37 years until Sissy passed away on November 19, 2021. Arnie was a loving husband and friend to many, he was a gentleman, kind hearted, patient, witty, and wise. He enjoyed spending time with family and friends in or around his home or camping and fishing at the lake. He was proud to share stories of his past with many generations of his family. Classic cars were one of his favorites, he loved reading Hemmings Motor News and Classic Car magazines. He also never missed a televised game of the LA Dodgers.
Although Arnie never had children of his own, he was a father to five children from both marriages. He had a beautiful, blended family that he loved with all his heart and watched generations of many great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren grow.
Arnie is survived by nieces: Regina Theresa Ramirez and Colleen Evans; nephew: Thomas Evans; sister in-law: Marti Corderman; daughters: Traci Smith and Cindy Lyon; grandchildren: Dana Summers, Deliah Gerson, Adrienne Gonzales, Andrea Primo, Erica Sikstrom, Jordan Smith, Daniel Tanksley, and Kyle Smith.
A visitation for Arnie will be held on Saturday, January 8th, 2021 from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM. Funeral services will begin at 12 PM, both at Palm Boulder Highway Mortuary, 800 South Boulder Highway, Henderson, NV 89015. Arnie will be laid to rest on his 95th birthday, January 8th, 2021 at 1:30 PM at the Palm Boulder City Mausoleum and Columbarium, 551 Adams Boulevard, Boulder City, NV 89005.
