Betty Louise Collins

24 October, 1946 – 22 December, 2023
IN THE CARE OF

Palm Boulder Highway Mortuary & Cemetery

Betty Louise Collins, age 77, of Henderson, Nevada passed away on Friday, December 22, 2023. She was born in Bakersfield, California on October 24, 1946, to Jack and Inez (Hopkins) Haworth. She was the youngest of 14 children; she had seven brothers and six sisters. While growing up she was very close to her grandfather James Hopkins. The two of them spent many hours talking and eating tomato and mayo sandwiches on the back porch.

When Betty was 15, she met her high school sweetheart, Arthur L. Collins at the movies. On December 22, 1964, they got married in a small chapel in Bakersfield. Arthur had recently enlisted in the U.S. Army, so they got married while he was on leave for the Christmas holiday. A few days after the wedding, Arthur left for his duty station and Betty went back to high school to finish her senior year. In June 1965, Betty graduated from East Bakersfield High School. After graduation, she joined her husband Arthur in Georgia. While in Georgia, Betty gave birth to a beautiful baby boy who unfortunately passed shortly after birth. After 3 years in the Army, they moved back to California, settling in Los Angeles. In 1972, she gave birth to a daughter, Samantha Lynn; and in 1976, a son, Eric Jamis joined the family. Betty loved being a mother and devoted her life to her children.

Betty was raised in the Christian faith and in 1983 she became a member of The First Assembly of God Church in Wilmington, California. While at the church she spent many years working in the baby nursery. She loved taking care of the babies and always said all the babies were her babies. She had a great affinity for the elderly and the young. In 1999, she moved to Paramount, California and joined the Assembly of God Church, Paramount.

Betty worked in the aerospace industry for 30 years, retiring in 2009. She had many friends while there and many became family to her.

She was a very proud Air Force mom when her son Eric joined the service. She was very supportive of all the servicemen and women and believed that we should do everything we can to help them.

Brittany, MarieAnne, Gage, Logan, and Nash were blessed to call her Mimi and she loved every part of being a grandparent to them. As much as she loved being a mother, she loved being a Mimi even more. Her face lit up whenever the kids were near her, or she was talking about them. She said the only thing better than being a grandma was getting to be a great grandma. Landon and Liam were the apple of her eye.

Betty was a survivor. She survived Breast Cancer twice, Uterine cancer and battled Alzheimer's till she couldn’t any longer and passed away on her 59th wedding anniversary surrounded by her husband, daughter, son in law and grandson.

She was preceded in death by her wonderful son Eric; her granddaughter, MarieAnne; her parents and all her siblings. Left to carry her memories are her husband, Arthur Collins; her daughter, Samantha (Rob) Cardosi; her grandchildren: Brittany (Kevin) Ellis, Gage, Logan, and Nash Barnes; and her great grandsons: Landon and Liam.

Memorial services for Betty will be on Saturday, February 3, 2024 at 10:00 AM at the Barstow First Assembly Church, 501 Avenue A, Barstow, CA 92311.
