Clinton Ray Hulsey is a man that will be remembered by anyone who ever had any contact with him. He was an honest, hard working Journeyman Mason, that lived life to the fullest. He was the friend you could call in a pinch that was there when you needed that extra laugh or just a strong shoulder to lean on.
Clinton was the oldest son of Ray and Marie Hulsey born in Tucson, Arizona. He was loved by his younger siblings, Sharon, Richard and Roger. The family moved to Henderson Nevada in 1965 and Clinton graduated from Basic High School in 1969. He was blessed with a son Brian Ray Hulsey on March 15, 1973.
Clinton started his work in the construction industry as a hod carrier for his Dad while working for Franklin McInnis Masonry. In 1973 he joined the apprentice program with BAC Local 13 and became a Journeyman Mason in 1976. He worked by his dad's side learning the tricks of the trade. Richard joined the Bricklayers tradition in 1976 and it was very common to have all three of them on the job together. The job site was always an interesting place to be if the Hulsey Crew was there working, you didn't know if they were arguing, laughing or fighting. Clinton's skills were evident as we can see his work from many years working to build the city of Las Vegas as we know it. In a changing construction trade the fact that he worked for only a few companies speaks of his stability in the work force. He was employed by Franklin McInnis Masonry, Lyn Condo Masonry, H&H masonry and Marnell Masonry, where he worked for the past 20 years. He built several of the schools in Clark County School District and his last job with Marnell Masonry was at the City Center on the Cosmopolitan Hotel and Casino. The pride of the Hulsey name being associated with his Masonry work was always a driving force. He was always up for the challenge and anyone who worked with him knew that the job was going to be done right.
Clinton had a diverse love of life. He enjoyed his family and spent a lot of time growing up hunting, fishing and boating with them. As a child in Arizona some of the best memories are of dragging the old boat to Roosevelt Lake to fish with his Dad, Sharon and Richard. There was always the fall deer hunting trips and some of the situations that Richard always seemed to get him into. It was always exciting when they came home with that deer that was the prize as well as having fresh venison to eat. He had great fishing trips at Cave Lake and had as much fun catching the crawdads as he did the trout. It seemed that if you were fishing anywhere with Clinton, he would out fish everyone and give "that grin" when he caught the biggest fish. He always had a story or two to tell around the campfire at night, usually ending with everyone falling over laughing at his tales and humor.
He loved music-any music from Country to Rock and Roll. Clinton played the guitar and sang in the family band with his Dad,and his brother Richard in his younger days. Many an evening was spent with the guitars out and the family sitting around singing with the 3 of them. His voice was strong when he sang and everyone loved him singing Johnny Cash and Buck Owens songs.
No one ever could tell a joke like he did and once the punchline hit, let the good time roll because he'd just keep them coming. He had a reputation in this town of keeping the party rolling and he could do that anytime he wanted to. Everyone at the Copper Keg knew him and loved him. He was a regular He was one of the first to introduce many to Buffalo Hot Wings at the Elbow Room and he had an award on the wall for eating 100 dozen hot wings.
Clinton loved his vehicles. Everyone knew that he would clean a truck so spotless that you could see your reflection in it and not have a smudge on it. He would spend hours detailing them and then pull them back into the garage so they didn't get dirty. He had pride in how anything he owned looked, but if you needed him to help you with that truck, he was there.
There are certain sayings that only are characteristic to Clinton. "Oh Bubba No, what are you going to do with that?", "Oh Baby", "That's a Bad One", or the most common you heard from him was "MMM...MMM...MMM!" just to name a few.
Anytime you walked into a room and heard a very loud, distinct laugh, you knew that Clinton was there. He could light up a room in 2 seconds with that laughter and smile. Clinton was loved by many and will be missed by all.
