David Cook, age 77, of Henderson, Nevada passed away on Saturday, April 15, 2023. He was born in Salt Lake City, Utah to Nellie Juanita Powell and Granval Palmer Cook. David was raised in Oklahoma City with his older brother, Richard; younger brother, Robert; and two younger sisters: Ann and Anita. David learned of his love for flying at an early age; earning his pilot's license at the age of 21. He graduated from Classen High School in 1964, and went on to continue his education, earning his Associates Degree from Oklahoma State.
In 1965, David married Mary York. together they were blessed with three sons: John, Robert, and Lonnie. Later in life; David married Connie Pate in 1983, whom had three children of her own. The couple blended their lives and families. As their families grew, they were blessed with 19 grandchildren, and 17 great grandchildren.
To support his family, David started his career working for the phone company. Through his hard work and dedication, David worked his way into management. David's career with AT&T would span over the next 30 years, retiring in 2008.
In retirement, David's new life involved relocating to Las Vegas, Nevada. Retirement provided more time for David to continue his love for flying virtual airlines, and spending time with his family. Even in retirement, David stayed in touch with his old friends and made plenty of new acquaintances. He was active in the community and felt fulfilled with the opportunities that retirement offered him.
David was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather, who was compassionate and devoted to his faith and his family. He was a member of Sin City Church, where he was involved in his bible study group. He enjoyed sharing his passion for flying small engine planes and flight simulators. As often as he and his wife could, the couple loved to travel and take cruises. He also liked playing racquetball and golf, bike riding; and in his spare time, he enjoyed watching college basketball and football.
David was a fantastic conversationalist who could engage just about anyone in a discussion. He was a down to earth person, outgoing and gregarious. He was without question the type of person who enjoyed experiencing things first hand. He was practical and sensible, but what friends and family will remember him for most is the fact that he was so understanding and kind. Everyone whose life he touched will miss David Cook.
David was preceded in death by his father, Granval Palmer Cook; mother, Nellie Juanita Powell; sister-in-law, Edwina Armijo, and his brother-in-law, Jerry Jackson. He is survived by his wife, Connie Cook; his sons: John David Cook (Tish), Robert Eugene Cook (Michelle), and Lonnie Dean Cook (Denise); Connie's children: Wesley Pate (Lisa), Kimberly Grisham (Gerry), and Christine White (Shawn); brothers: Richard Palmer Cook (Gloria) and Robert Dale Cook; sisters: Anita Inez Cook and Ann Esther Cook; grandchildren: Tiera, Daniel , Michael, Anthony, Nicholas, Justin, Zoe, Ashley, James, Maria, Micheala, Brady, Victoria, Patrik, Angelica, Andrew, Hannah, Anissa, and Bo; and 17 great grandchildren.
A celebration of life for David will be held Saturday, April 29, 2023 from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM at Palm Boulder Highway Mortuary, 800 South Boulder Highway, Henderson, NV 89015.
