James Dell Potter

James Dell Potter, MD James Dell Potter, 83, passed away November 12, 2016, with dignity, at home. James was born in Overton, NV January 14, 1933 to Dell and Magda Winn Potter. He was proud to be a fourth generation Nevadan After graduating from Moapa Valley High School, he worked as a plumber, became a journeyman plumber and joined the Plumber Pipefitter Union #525. As a plumber one of his jobs was at the Nevada Test Site during the time when above ground atom bomb testing took place. James attended Dixie Jr. College 1 year before his National Guard unit was called up. He served 2 years with the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. Upon returning from the Service, he attended and graduated from University Of Utah with a BA degree, then attended the University of Michigan where he obtained his Medical Degree. In 1963 he returned to Henderson, NV to establish his medical practice. He joined the Henderson Clinic. His family consisted of wife, Joyce Wanless Potter, and three children; Debra, Daniel, and Daryl. He later married Mildred Blain and as a result of that union Casey was born. August 2, 1974 he married Valerie Marshall in Akron Ohio. They were married for 42 years. On December 12, 2012 James and Valerie renewed their vows at Our Lady of Las Vegas Catholic Church in Las Vegas, NV. He practiced medicine in Henderson, NV from 1963 to 1995. Before retirement he worked for the Department of Corrections in Ely, NV. James was preceded in death by both of his parents; son Casey and sisters Patsy Scow and La Vern Little. James is survived by his loving and devoted wife, Valerie Marshall Potter; daughter Debra and sons Daniel and Daryl; his siblings Leon, Delwin, Mary Jean and Alan; 10 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren. Visitation will be 10:00 – 11:00 am Friday, December 9th, followed by funeral services at 11:00 am, both at Palm Mortuary, 800 S. Boulder Hwy, Henderson, NV.
